I wired up some interior switches for my winch this afternoon. The switch with the red cover cuts power to both the interior and exterior switches so some jamoke, or my kids, can’t start winding the winch up. I’ve always wanted a switch with a flip cover. I built the wiring using an old extension cord. I then wrapped it in that ribbed plastic stuff to give it a nice factory look.

Is this wired directly to your winch or do these switches go to a solenoid?

I see I’m not the only one who re-purposes sections of broken extension cords. ;)

I forgot to mention that. It was perfect in this case because I needed three wires to go from the winch to the switch.

The power is wired through the four winch solenoids in the power box before the two switches. I installed and on/off switch which cuts power to the exterior switch. Someone could hotwire the winch if they really wanted to. I’m going to install a quick disconnect so power will be cut when not in use.

I adore those switches. I want to wire everything up to steel toggle switches with the red off covers. more cars should have toggles.

That is super cool. (no joke, real switches with real covers are not only super functional but sexy as heck.)
